The Mahindra Thar 3-door is slated to get a refresh soon with the refreshed version expected to come with a fresh styling and new features which will make the vehicle more user friendly. The launch will happen in Jodhpur, and there will be no changes to the Thar’s off-roading characteristics.
A Face That Reminds You of Thar Roxx
Most dramatic alterations are anticipated to take place on the face of the car. As seen in teaser videos and test vehicles, a revamped grille design along with projector headlamps featuring C-shaped LED daytime running lights are some of the anticipated modifications. The rear of the vehicle might also undergo some changes with altered tail-light components and new alloy wheels.
The same three-door, boxy shape and spare tire on the rear end are anticipated to persist.
Additional Interior Equipment

The interior of the SUV may be expected to keep its current design, but the company can equip the car with a number of features which are becoming common among SUVs of this range.
Some of these features may include a digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control system, wireless phone charging, and 360-degree camera. The features are yet to be confirmed as Mahindra reveals all the interior equipment features.
The currently available Thar was updated with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear air-conditioning vents, and rear-view camera.
Existing Engines Likely To Stay The Same
There won’t be any radical revamp of the engine lineup. The facelift model is likely to feature the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. Buyers will also continue to have both manual and automatic transmission options and rear-wheel drive/4-wheel drive options depending on the powertrain.
Mahindra could also do some fine-tuning of the ride dynamics and sound insulation, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen.
What Could Happen To The Price?
Presently the price of the Thar ranges from ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18 lakh ex-showroom. Considering the changes made to the design and the additional features in the facelift version, the premium could be levied over the previous version.
The Thar would still have competition from the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
Our Verdict
It seems like the upcoming 2026 version of the Thar facelift is more of an evolution than a revolution. The carmaker seems to keep the familiar three-door structure of the SUV and maintain the same engine configuration but refine its design to make it more similar to the Thar Roxx.
The only challenge will be the price. In case the carmaker manages to add significant features without making the new Thar go much further from the existing range, the three-door SUV can become a good choice for customers seeking genuine off-roading capabilities with a more modern interior.
