Tata Aeris Petrol Review: Engine, Mileage, Features And Driving Experience

The Tata Aeris petrol model adds a refined look, luxury interiors, and an extensive list of features to Tata Motors’ compact sedan family. Even though the model is quite a fresh one, it uses the platform developed earlier by Tata, based on the car brand called the Tigor, while using the same familiar 1.2-liter petrol engine.

Offering pricing starting from ₹5.29 lakh to ₹8.74 lakh ex-showroom for the petrol variants, the model promises good value.

Engine and Performance

The Tata Aeris petrol comes with a naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that develops 86hp and 113Nm. This engine can be coupled with either a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission.

The engine feels powerful enough in urban settings and is fairly responsive at normal speeds. It is able to reach 80kph quite quickly but requires additional time to accelerate further past that point. The engine is capable of maintaining cruising speeds on the highway and has better acceleration capabilities compared to the CNG engine.

Refinement continues to be poor. Vibrations can be felt at idle and low speeds, whereas the engine becomes harsh past 2,500rpm.

Ride, Handling and Mileage

One of the strong suits of the Aeris is ride comfort. The suspension can take care of poor road conditions quite easily, and with a ground clearance of 170mm, it would have ample clearance to get past Indian speed breakers.

When the car goes into higher speeds, the suspension manages the sedan quite well when doing rapid lane changes. The steering becomes heavy at higher speeds although the central feedback from the steering is still lacking.

Tata has not released any official mileage figure as yet, but from past experience with the Tiago with the same engine and transmission combination, the efficiency would be around the same.

Exterior and Interior

The Aeris gains a more contemporary look on its front face with its narrow LED headlights and DRLs, together with new bumpers and LED fog lights. The car’s roof that looks like a fastback remains an eye-catching feature that makes the model different from common compact sedans.

On the interior side, the beige cockpit includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen along with an updated dash and climate control. The front seats are ventilated, while the rear ones provide sufficient knee and leg room. Passengers of average height will have limited head space in the back row.

Another benefit is that the 419-liter trunk is bigger than those in some competing models.

Features and Safety

The top models receive a 360-degree camera, wireless charging system, TPMS, rain-sensing wipers, ESP, traction control and DVR via the surround view cameras.

Six airbags, ISOFIX mounts, rear parking sensors and three-point seat belts with warning systems are included as standard features.
