Cheapest Electric Cars In India: 5 Affordable EVs To Consider

Affordable electric cars have become a reality in India as auto manufacturers are coming up with cars in different segments ranging from hatchbacks, SUVs to city cars. This ranges from the Tata Tiago EV to the new Kia Syros EV and many more. Below are the five electric cars that have been listed as some of the most affordable electric cars in India.

Tata Tiago EV

One of the most affordable electric cars in India today is the Tata Tiago EV with a price tag of ₹6.99 lakh. It comes in 19.2kWh and 24kWh batteries which provide a range of 226km and 285km respectively.

With its updated version having features like a 360-degree camera, six airbags and improved cabin, the car is a perfect choice for city travel only.

MG Comet EV

The MG Comet EV is built keeping the aspect of urban driving in mind. Its smaller size makes it easy to drive and park in the busy streets of a city, while the current starting price is about ₹9.79 lakh.

It comes equipped with a dual-screen dashboard, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear camera, and connected-car features. MG also provides an innovative battery-as-a-service model that reduces the upfront cost of the car.

Tata Punch EV

In case buyers want a car that has the experience of an SUV, then the Tata Punch EV can be the better choice. The current price of the car is about ₹9.79 lakh, while the current range of the car reaches up to ₹12.99 lakh.

Kia Syros EV

As compared to the other EVs mentioned above in the list, the Kia Syros EV is relatively more costly, but it provides a larger SUV. The price for the base model starts at ₹13.50 lakh ex-showroom, whereas the top variant comes for ₹20 lakh.

The Syros EV gives two battery pack capacities of 42kWh and 51.4kWh, which provide the range of 526km. Besides, some variants come with advanced features including ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS.

Which One Makes Sense?

Depends on how you want to use your vehicle. The Tiago EV and Comet EV will suit someone who wants a cost-effective option for the city commute, whereas Punch EV provides an SUV package.

Our Thoughts

The variety of affordable EVs is an indication that electric motoring in India is no longer restricted to premium automobiles. The Tata Tiago EV continues to be the starting point for those considering a regular electric hatchback, while the Comet EV is mainly suited for city driving.

With more money in hand, the Punch EV and Syros EV provide the larger vehicle functionality and extended claimed ranges. In any case, it all boils down to personal budget, distance driven, and availability of charging points, rather than picking the cheapest car on the list.
